The Wyeth - Tootle Manor, at 11th and Charles sts., is a historical mansion. William M. Wyeth built it in 1879. It was designed in Gothic style by Eckel and Mann Architects. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles lived there until 1887 when it was sold.
The mansion consists of three floors and a tower. The house is home to more than 40 rooms. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. Huston Wyeth was a well-known businessman and held many positions within the city. He was active within the city's arts and manufacturing sectors. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was involved in the Waterways League of America as well as the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member, among others, of the Wyeth Duck Club and St. Joseph Duck Club. He also served the presidency of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
