This sprawling mansion from the late 19th century features antique furnishings and art. On request, tours are offered. For history lovers, the mansion is a must see. You will also find special events such a black tie gala.
The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. Built in 1879 by William M. Wyeth, it was designed by Mann Architects in Gothic style. They gathered ideas from their European travels and built the mansion in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. The Wyeth–Tootle Mansion is found in St. Joseph, Missouri. A history book on Huston's father William Wyeth is available if you are interested in the area's history.
Huston Wyeth served several roles in the city as well. He was active within the city's arts and manufacturing sectors. He was president of St. Joseph's Humane Society and served on its board. He was also involved in the Waterways League of America, and the American Museum of Natural History. He was also a member and past president of the Wyeth Duck Club (St. Joseph Duck Club) and the Audubon Society (St. Joseph Duck Club). He was also president of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
